Corporal Will Bettle, 15, has excelled at Sabre Fencing recently; at the Essex Open he won the under 17 title. The essex open is a nationally ranked competition and fencers from all over the UK and some international fencers attended.
Also, last December, Will won the Oxford University Wainwright Junior Prize which is an annual competition run by the University. Will wrote an essay on a topic relating to ancient history, specifically an examination of the military tactics adopted in the battle of Kadesh. This was a battle between Egypt and the Hittites in around 1274 BC. The competition assessor commented particularly on the quality of his academic analysis and also the readability of his account and awarded him first prize – a cheque for £250. Will was delighted!
Congratulations Will on all your latest achievements.
