RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire is home to three operational flying Squadrons, No’s 8, 23 and 51 Squadrons – Air Command surveillance and reconnaissance assets.
This year’s years camp was an excellent camp, a combination of Air Cadets attended from 1334 Manningtree, 1331 Stowmarket, 1249 Dereham, 1379 Leiston, 469 Lowestoft, 2470 Sudbury and 1070 Diss Squadrons. The activities schedule was wide and varied, giving all the cadets a broad experience of RAF life, for some this was their first RAF camp.
Some of the activities included a look round the huge aircraft of 51 Sqd, a day with the RAuxAF Regiment, tasks with the RAF Outreach team, a go on the flight simulator, visits to the fire section, air traffic control and so much more.
Everyone was kept busy from dawn ’til dusk, with the activities, uniform changes, trips to the mess hall for food and evening entertainment filling every minute of the day. Manningtree’s Cadets returned home thoroughly tired but happy, with plenty to tell.
